Today I bring to you all in internetland two artists that just happen to both be from Brighton, UK. I've been listening to both of these bands non-stop for over a week now.
First up, Fujiya & Miyagi. Fujiya & Miyagi are an English band formed in Brighton in 2000. They are self-described as being heavily influenced by 70's Krautrock bands such as Can and Neu! as well as early-90's electronica artists like Aphex Twin. The origins of the band's name come from a character in the movie The Karate Kid as well as the brand of a record player. Here is their video for "Ankle Injuries" off the album Transparent Things.
Next up is Bat for Lashes.
Bat for Lashes is a female band led by Natasha Khan, a Brighton-based songwriter, born in Pakistan. Her album Fur And Gold, reminds me of Bjork a bit, and the video which is below, "What's A Girl To Do", reminds me of Donnie Darko. So it's pretty much awesome. Need to give props to my homegirl Laura Nunzi for exposing me to this band.
